Sun eCritical Shield

Sun eCritical Shield is a yearly renewable medical and health insurance plan that provides coverage against lifestyle diseases. This plan offer Top 3 CI Care benefit* and diabetes care benefit** and the coverage will be provided up to age 70. These illnesses are among the most common illnesses in Malaysia.

*Top 3 CI Care benefit refers to Cancer, stroke and heart attack.
**Diabetes Care benefit refers to Surgery for Type 2 Diabetic Retinopathy, Limb Amputation due to Type 2 Diabetic Complications or Severe Diabetic Nephropathy resulting in Kidney Failure.

This plan is underwritten by Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhad <Registration Number: 199001005930 (197499-U)>, an insurer registered with Bank Negara Malaysia under the Financial Services Act 2013.

The amount of coverage you need depends on your budget, expenses, affordability, current and future financial obligations. You should choose the type of plan that best suit your personal circumstances and ensure that the premium is an amount that you can afford throughout the coverage term.

Malaysian citizen or a permanent resident residing in Malaysia and aged from 18 to 59 can enrol into Sun eCritical Shield.

Each individual is only allowed to sign up for one Sun eCritical Shield Plan.

The premium that you need to pay depends on your age, gender and selected plan. Please note that the premium rates are non-guaranteed and will increase according to your attained age upon policy anniversary. Kindly refer to the Product Disclosure Sheet for the amount that you need to pay.

The premium can be paid via credit card or debit card. You also have the flexibility to select your preferred payment frequency to meet your financial needs.

Yes. Subject to our approval, you may change the frequency of premium payments upon policy renewal by giving us written notice before the expiry of the grace period*.

* Grace period of 30 days is given from the premium due date for the payment of premium. If you do not pay the premium within 30 days grace period from the premium due date, your policy will lapse with immediate effect.

No, you are not allowed to use third party’s credit card or debit card to pay your premium. The credit or debit cardholder must be the named policy owner / life assured.

No. There are no additional fees and charges other than your premium payment.

No benefit shall be payable if the life assured is diagnosed with a critical illness resulted directly or indirectly from, or as a result of the following:

1. disease(s) resulting from Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), AIDS-related complex or infection by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV);
2. pre-existing condition;
3. congenital conditions;
4. self-inflicted injuries while sane or insane;
5. wilful misuse of alcohol or drugs;
6. war or any act of war, atomic, biological and / or chemical warfare / activities, terrorism related activities and any activities of a military nature;
7. participating in any avocation / activities such as racing of any kind, aerial sports, scuba diving, professional sports;
8. the symptoms or signs of Cancer, Heart Attack or Diabetes Related Illnesses is manifested prior to or within 60 days of the policy commencement date or last reinstatement date, whichever is later;
9. the symptoms or signs of Stroke is manifested prior to or within 30 days of the policy commencement date or last reinstatement date, whichever is later; or
10. any illness other than a diagnosis of critical illnesses as defined herein.

There is no option for plan upgrade or downgrade. Please give due consideration to the coverage amount you require before enrolment.

Yes, you can cancel the policy after purchasing it. You are given a free look period of 15 days from the delivery date of the policy. During this period, you should review your policy to ensure it is suitable for you and it meets your needs. If you decide not to take up the policy for whatever reason after it has been issued, you may cancel the policy by giving written notice to us within the free look period. We will refund any premium paid.

If you cancel after 15 days from the delivery of the policy, you will be covered under the policy until the date when the next premium becomes due. There will be no cash value or pro-rated premium payable.

Sun eCritical Shield does not provide any cash surrender value.

Yes, there is a waiting period for this plan. A 30 days waiting period from the policy commencement date or last reinstatement date, whichever is later, is applicable to Stroke with exception to the following critical illnesses which shall be subjected to 60 days waiting period:

1. Cancer;
2. Heart Attack; and
3. Diabetes related illnesses which are referred to Surgery for Type 2 Diabetic Retinopathy, Limb Amputation due to Type 2 Diabetic Complications and Severe Diabetic Nephropathy resulting in Kidney Failure.

Therefore, no benefit shall be payable in the event that the life assured is diagnosed with the critical illness or had signs and symptoms of any of the listed critical illness within the waiting period as defined.

Yes, there is a survival period for this plan. A survival period of 30 days from the date of diagnosis of critical illness is applicable. Therefore, no benefit would be payable in the event that the life assured fails to survive such period.

Yes, the premium paid for Sun eCritical Shield may qualify you for personal income tax relief subject to the final decision by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia.

You are encouraged to nominate a nominee(s) to speed up the claim payment to your nominee(s). Please ensure that your nominee(s) is aware of the insurance plan that you have purchased.
