Sun eSsential Life

Sun eSsential Life is a simple and affordable insurance plan that provides lump sum death and total and permanent disability (TPD) benefit due to all causes.

This plan also provides additional coverage in the event of death / TPD due to specified infectious diseases. Specified infectious diseases refer to Dengue Fever, Chikungunya Fever, Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis, Avian Influenza or Zika Virus Infection.

This plan is underwritten by Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhad <Registration Number: 199001005930 (197499-U)>, an insurer registered with Bank Negara Malaysia under the Financial Services Act 2013.

Sun eSsential Life is a renewable insurance plan that provides coverage up to age 80, except for TPD coverage which will cease when the life assured reaches 65 years old.

The amount of coverage you need depends on your budget, expenses, affordability, current and future financial obligations. You should choose the type of plan that best suit your personal circumstances and ensure that the premium is an amount that you can afford throughout the coverage term.

You are eligible to enrol for Sun eSsential Life as long as you are a Malaysian citizen or permanent resident residing in Malaysia, aged between 18 to 59 and is in good health.

Each individual is allowed to sign up for only one Sun eSsential Life Plan.

The premium that you need to pay depends on your age, gender and selected plan. Please note that the premium rates are non-guaranteed and will increase according to your attained age. Kindly refer to the Product Disclosure Sheet for the amount that you need to pay.

The premium can be paid via credit card or debit card. You also have the flexibility to select your preferred payment frequency to meet your financial needs.

No, you are not allowed to use third party’s credit card or debit card to pay your premium. The credit or debit cardholder must be the named policy owner / life assured.

No. There are no additional fees and charges other than your premium payment.

Exclusions on death benefit
No benefit shall be payable if death is due to:

• pre-existing condition within the first 12 months from the policy issue date or last reinstatement date, whichever is later; or
• suicide within the first 12 months from the policy issue date or last reinstatement date, whichever is later.

In this case, the policy will be terminated and the total premium paid will be refunded without interest.

Exclusions on death/TPD due to specified infectious diseases benefit
No benefit shall be payable if death or disability due to specified infectious diseases is due to:

• covered event of Dengue Fever, Chikungunya Fever, Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis, Avian Influenza or Zika Virus Infection occurring within 30 days from the policy issue date or last reinstatement date, whichever is later; or
• any other causes other than Dengue Fever, Chikungunya Fever, Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis, Avian Influenza or Zika Virus Infection; or
• any pre-existing conditions.
  In this case, the policy will be terminated and the total premium paid will be refunded without interest.

Exclusions on TPD benefit
No benefit shall be payable if the TPD is due to:

• pre-existing condition within the first 12 months from the policy issue date or last reinstatement date, whichever is later; or
• self-inflicted injuries or suicide.

Note: This list is non-exhaustive. Please refer to the policy documents for further information on exclusions.

There is no option for plan upgrade or downgrade. Please give due consideration to the protection amount you require before enrolment.

Yes, you can cancel the policy after purchasing it. You are given a free look period of 15 days from the delivery date of the policy. During this period, you should review your policy to ensure it is suitable for you and it meets your needs. If you decide not to take up the policy for whatever reason after it has been issued, you may cancel the policy by giving written notice to us within the free look period. We will refund any premium paid.

If you cancel after 15 days from the delivery of the policy, you will be covered under the policy until the date when the next premium becomes due. There will be no cash value or pro-rated premium payable.

Sun eSsential Life is a pure protection plan and does not provide any cash surrender value.

Yes, the premium paid for Sun eSsential Life may qualify you for personal income tax relief subject to final decision by Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia.

You are encouraged to make a nomination to speed up the claim payment to your nominee(s).
You have to ensure that your nominee(s) is aware of the insurance plan that you have enrolled.
