What is Group Term Takaful (GTT)?
The Group Term Takaful (GTT) provides the takaful coverage for death and
critical illnesses (CI). In the event of the death of person covered, it provides a lump sum takaful benefit
(i.e. the sum covered) as at the time of claim. Additionally, it provides coverage for
36 critical illnesses (CI) for the person covered. Any payout under the CI coverage will reduce the
sum covered for death benefit.
Group Term Takaful is managed by Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Berhad (SLMTB) Registration No. 200501012215
(689263-M), a takaful operator regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia and licensed under the
Islamic Financial Services Act 2013.
What is the coverage period and when does my coverage begin?
Group Term Takaful is the yearly renewable plan that provides the coverage up to age 65.
The GTT coverage start date (also known as GTT commencement date) will be determined based on your application date as shown below.
If death or critical illness occurs after your enrolment but before the GTT coverage start date,
no benefit will be payable. However, any contribution paid will be fully refunded to you.

How do I know if this plan is suitable for me?
If you are looking for a basic family takaful plan with affordable contribution,
this plan is suitable for you.
What are the eligibility criteria to enrol?
This campaign* is offered to individual aged between 18 and 64 who have an existing
or newly enrolled Sun Life insurance policy or family takaful contract. Applicants must be Malaysian citizens
or Permanent Residents residing in Malaysia with a valid 12-digit NRIC.
*Campaign period: 11 November 2025 – 31 December 2025
Do I need to undergo any medical
check-up before I register with Group Term Takaful?
No, as this is a guaranteed takaful issuance.
How many Group Term Takaful plans can I sign up for?
Each eligible individual is allowed to participate in only one Group Term Takaful plan
and no change of plan option is permitted after issuance.
How much contribution do I need to
pay?
The monthly contribution that you have to pay is RM140.00 / RM280.00 / RM420.00
depending on the plan option you've selected. The contribution term for this plan will continue up to the
expiry of the certificate following your 65th birthday.
The contribution amount is not guaranteed and may be revised from time to time with written notice of no
less than 90 days prior to the expiry of the certificate. Any revision contribution shall take effect on the
next certificate anniversary following the end of the notice period.
Is there a grace period given to pay the contribution?
Grace period of 31 days is given from the contribution due date for the payment of contribution.
If you do not pay the contribution within 31 days grace period from the contribution due date,
your contract will lapse with immediate effect.
Will the contribution amount increase as you age?
The contribution amount will not increase according to your age.
How can I pay for the contribution?
You may pay your contribution via credit card or debit card.
Would I be able to change plan type after I have participated in the plan?
No, you are not allowed to upgrade or downgrade the plan after you have participated in the plan.
Please give due consideration to the protection amount you require before participating.
How do I receive my certificate documents after I registered with Group Term Takaful?
After successfully enrolling in Group Term Takaful, you will receive an email confirmation from SLMTB acknowledging your application.
Once your application is approved, a separate email will be sent to you with your e-certificate.

Can I use someone else's credit card or debit card to pay my contribution?
No, you are not allowed to use a third party's credit card or debit card to pay your contribution.
The credit or debit cardholder must be the named person covered.

What are the exclusions or the key terms and conditions under the Group Term Takaful plan?
No death benefit will be payable if the person covered commits suicide (while sane or insane)
or dies due to a pre-existing condition within twelve (12) months from the GTT commencement date.
No ACI benefit will be payable for any other claim arising from a pre-existing illness, injury, condition,
or symptom that existed before the GTT commencement date
Is there any waiting period for this plan?
Yes, there is a waiting period of 30 days from the GTT commencement date
applicable to death and all critical illnesses with exception to the following illnesses which shall be subjected
to the waiting period of 60 days from the effective date:
a. Angioplasty and Other Invasive Treatments for Coronary Artery Disease;
b. Cancer;
c. Coronary heart disease requiring surgery;
d. Heart Attack; or
e. Serious Coronary Artery Disease
No benefit would be payable if the person covered dies, due to natural causes or
is diagnosed with the critical illness within the waiting period as defined above.
Can I cancel the plan after registering with it?
Yes, you may cancel the plan after participating in it.
You are entitled to a free-look period of 15 calendars days from the delivery date of the certificate. During this period,
you should review your certificate to ensure it is suitable for you and your needs. If you subsequently
decide not to take up this plan after the certificate has been issued, you may cancel this plan through a written
notice to Sun Life Malaysia within the free-look period. We will refund any contribution paid less any deduction
of medical examination expenses incurred by SLMT.
If you cancel after 15 calendars days from the delivery date of the certificate, you will be covered under this plan
until the date when the next contribution becomes due. There will be no pro-rated contribution refund or cash value payable.
If I were to terminate my Group Term Takaful certificate, will I be entitled to any cash surrender value?
Group Term Takaful is a pure protection plan and does not provide any cash surrender value.
What do I need to do if there are changes to my contact details/personal details after I have registered with Group Term Takaful plan?

Is the plan eligible for Income Tax Relief?
Yes, the contribution paid for Group Term Takaful may qualify you for
personal income tax relief subject to the final decision by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia.
Do I need to make a nomination?
You are encouraged to make a nomination to speed up the claim payment to your nominee(s).
You have to ensure that your nominee(s) is aware of the takaful plan that you have participated in.
